Social Media Marketing: Factors influencing online marketing for You!
With the advent of newer media and technology tools, social media marketing is growing in every field and industry.
Why so?
The user is everywhere and the customers are all around. So that is where you need to be there too.
Why has social media marketing today become so prominent and focused on?
It’s simple. When you are a brand (existing) new or old at micro or macro level there are conversations happening online about your product and services in real-time. So the question here simply is, would you rather have your competitor cash in on the conversation or would you yourself like to be a part of the interaction prism and channelize the leads your way?
Moreover, one needs to be clear of few things about social media marketing:
- It is not about social networking websites alone
- It is not about just having a blog or a forum page
- It does not matter if you have a zillion fans only
So what makes the real deal about social media marketing work?
Firstly, one needs to be clear that “People buy from people” and secondly, one needs to clearly understand that you cannot sell to peoplewho are online to stay connected with friends and peers .
So, DO NOT SELL, but instead CONNECT with your customer.
Let them develop the trust in you and be the brand ambassador for you instead. It goes a long way.
So what does a social media quotient measure from a social media marketing campaign?
When you are able to humanize your brand by becoming one in conversation with your target group (which means you need to reach the right target group, even online) you can deliver (giving is the beginning of building a humanized brand to show you care) concrete (be realistic and precise in what is being offered) and credible (earn the trust) easy to consume information, resources and help.
Reaching through forums, blogs and other facebook communities, linkedin groups, twitter platforms and such other relevant to “YOUR PRODUCT/SERVICE” locations will get you to your customer. So make sure you use not too many but at least two or three platforms to spread across and connect.
What can you expect from your social media marketing team?
- Firstly, make sure you assign them the right goals which are on top of your organizational priorities.
- Then make sure your ‘team’ whether in-house or an external agency has the relevant credentials (Professional background and academic excellence) to back up the product and or service online.
Why?
It’s your brand out there. So make sure the one handling it, understands it well enough.
So a good branding experience is essential to nurture the brands and at the same time a wonderful academic credential into the field of marketing research and management ensures your product is not going into the hands of just another “oversized” advertising agency or a “freelancer” trying to prove they are part of the online new age marketing media.
With this also make sure that before the social media marketing campaign is planned, designed and implemented, the team or agency are showing enough ‘types’ of data tracking, brand monitoring and product analysis demographics from their end.
You can ask for a brand analysis or better, their process to plan the campaign for your product in a detailed step by step flow with details of what will be tracked. If the answer is web hits or just ‘members’ to your social networking groups, you know you are not with the right set of team.
What you need here is someone who can assess not only your brand but also your top priority goals which can be anything from building up a powerful presence across online to launching a product across specific platforms and offer it in a realistic and reasonable timeline. It’s your brand, your product in their hands so make sure it is in safe hands.
Should you be investing on any sort of adwords of different CPC (Cost per click) models?
It depends on your budget. To start with, essentially do not invest in tools where control over clicks is not in your hands. For eg. If you have invested even a small sum of Rs.10/- (INR) per click on a keyword and if you have a set of online competitors who might even for the fun of it make possible 1000 garbage clicks (garbage clicks are those which your competitors or other random users click and land on your site a day which is of utterly no use for which you anyway end up paying) in a span of lets say 30 days in the month, you are ending up paying Rs.10,000/- (INR) per month for literally nothing.
So invest rather in resourceful knowledge providing forums, blogs which may be maintained by professionals in the field with credentials and testimonials to vouch for the same. This will not only be economical but also give you an up-start in the field of online brand building in a powerful way for a long term purpose.
Thus, proper exposure to brand and marketing both, professionally and academically, measurable statistics relevant to your industry and product information, with a powerful SEO knowledge presence would make up for a team of social media marketing consultants whether in-house or external.
At least you know, you have invested in the right place for something that’s going to keep you connected and growing both brand wise and presence wise.
How else would you be able to justify your ROI (return on investment).
So make sure you understand completely the factors that go into influencing the social media marketing techniques for measuring your true social media quotient across platforms.
Right opportunity, technological resource, brand monitoring, reaching the right target, positioning your brand the correct way, optimizing the utility factor of these power packed online marketing tools as a business function with set of pre defined goals and timelines ensures social media marketing for you as not a fashionable fad but a resource that you cannot afford to ignore.

Google Caffeine: Search a lot faster, real-time

More Caffeine to keep you fresh and going!
That’s right, the search engine guru, Google, recently announced the new web indexing system called Caffeine.
How does it compare with the old system?
The core difference is:
The old indexing had layers of search indexing that were updated at regular intervals and were not real-time.
With Caffeine the indexing not only is continuous but even includes real time searches happening across platforms like twitter and more.
As quoted on Google Blog: “Every second Caffeine processes hundreds of thousands of pages in parallel. If this were a pile of paper it would grow three miles taller every second. Caffeine takes up nearly 100 million gigabytes of storage in one database and adds new information at a rate of hundreds of thousands of gigabytes per day. You would need 625,000 of the largest iPods to store that much information; if these were stacked end-to-end they would go for more than 40 miles.”
The core of the indexing feature has only gotten stronger with more power packed search results but also tremendously fast in terms of real – time search capabilities.
For eg. We tested it and searched for two terms.
One something that is a new age keyword, that is fresh and is on the most discussed terms on the globe today and the other which is a legendary word since decades and has been existing since long wherein we wanted to test the most relevant and newest updates on both of them.
The 2 words were “Social media quotient” and “Elvis Presley” and the results were amazing.
Not only does the new google search give a massively larger chunk of results than before, but it also gives blog posts, video, forums, images discussed about both the topics in the last 1 – 5 hours with accurate timeline which is amazing.
With newer and more improvements being done on the Google Caffeine, we can only expect the real-time search to come down from an “discussed in the last 1 hour” to “discussed seconds before”.
Gist of Google Caffeine:
- Powerful indexing features giving us more search results across the web than before
- High on SEO & keywords
- Real time search with twitter results etc
- Power packed searched whether it’s a news story, a blog or a forum post
No wonder the new google caffeine is making powerful binging sounds everywhere.
Keep searching!
Thank You.

Blogs replace Magazines with Social Media Marketing

connect online
That would be a powerfully misquoted statement, especially in today’s “give them all” technology served new age media world.
I recently read somewhere of the statement above and was utterly confused. Today the digital age and new media are here to work collaboratively and give every consumer what they are looking out for.
Let us look at two scenarios based on a B2B and B2C with a practical approach and perspective.
A top class executive from a big corporation today will prefer to go through the sites online probably during his lunch break of which he might have allotted his daily ‘surfing’ time to be not more than 5-10 minutes which too is on the higher side. Having worked at different levels of marketing & product departments with Directors, Presidents and departmental heads of MNC’s and corporate biggies, this is the one thing that I am extremely sure about. Here too their rigid schedule is made up of email alerts added to their daily dose of reading related to their industry and market so that they do not spend time searching online. Their schedule revolves around a set time every single day. Time is everything. Today we find them working while traveling to and fro from work in their automobiles. Yet, we find the subscription to corporate & industry based magazines being the highest from their group.
Why? Because underestimating the power of print is pure ignorance of the true power of real connect and reach.
Now looking at the second scenario & coming back to the daily consumer by shifting away from the corporate board room. The average consumer today feels comfortable looking at a print magazine at his time of leisure. As a matter of fact, we tend to ignore any ad based pop-up and flashy banners that ‘surf-up’ during our browsing time. Another point to look and give a deep thought is the power of the print media even today especially in third world and developing countries.
The chances of an average consumer looking at a print ad in a magazine and then browsing about it online are much higher than vice versa.
Why?
The age of technology & new media have also pushed across boundaries of providing one with massive information across industries. Today, I spend on an average reading about nine to ten thousand (10,000) pages of content and news information every single week across media’s. Still there is so much updating needed.
With all of these factors, the right way to reach a consumer today, be it a B2B or a B2C consumer is by blending in the traditional media with the new age technology and providing both to the consumer. A magazine today has much stronger power in communicating a message than a blog to an average household as it reaches and is delivered in hard copy in their hands. It adds up a trust about the company, about the team of professionals associated with the organization and gives one a form of assurance about the organization being real and not just another virtual company with a work from home concept who would be handling your brand or product.
The idea to cater to both the scenarios today would be to add a healthy amount of resourceful information in your magazine for local demographic distribution and use the power of online media for a much larger field zone with more content and resources.
As a generation gifted with the power of speed & timely information it is our core duty to today combine all that we can and leverage it to fulfill the needs of the advertiser and at the same time serve as a catalyst who not only evangelizes a brand but also caters to the consumer’s needs.
Blog rules, sites dominate, social networking is growing massively, but the power of a media tool works best when you have both the traditional media and the new age technology combined as one.
Make sure when you hand over your product or brand to any agency that they are not just another technically sound organization promising a higher seo for website and analysis, but understand the market, consumers and have a powerful presence too in the web today. Make sure to know if they themselves practice what they preach and if they do, they would have a much better chance to deliver than anyone else.
Go local, get global and stay connected. But most importantly make sure that in the race to reach a client across seas we do not miss out on a prospect next door who needs the same set of services too.
Go BRAND Yourself!
Give us your views on the same. We would love to hear from you.

PRESS evolving to ‘Press this’: In India

Press Evolution:Newspaper
By press in common parlance we usually refer to Printing press, but in journalistic & mass communication terminology, we mean print media such as newspapers, periodicals, magazines, news agencies, press syndicates and any such printed material.
The idea behind forming a press in terms of newspapers and similar related agencies has been to share public information, from the nation or the people themselves and create a powerful vehicle of expressions and information. Today, newspapers have evolved in terms of not only content but also the way it is presented to the mass across countries.
From the time of Maharajas (Kings) and before the period of Christ, we can see wall carvings, signs and stone art symbols across cultures and religions. Kings like Ashoka and Mughal emperors have made powerful use of these media for ages to keep the public informed and educated.
As wall carvings went to the next level of stone and sculptures with writings to newsletters as manuscripts, the development of the printing press was gradually taking place. Soon enough India found its first official newspaper courtesy of James Augustus Hickey in the form of Bengal Gazette in the year 1780.
The first printing press was established in Mumbai in 1674, second in Madras and third in Calcutta in 1779. Hickey’s Bengal Gazette also known as the Calcutta General Advertiser began on 29th January 1780. It was described beautifully as a ‘weekly political and commercial paper open to all parties but influenced by none’
The first two decades of the 19th century saw rigid control of the Press by Lords Wellesley and Warren Hastings. In-spite of this, slowly the Indian readers were soon enough exposed to a very large number of printing houses in the form of newspapers and newsletters across Mumbai, Calcutta & Madras in the form of Darpan, Dig Darshan, Samachar, Friend of India etc.
During this period came the father of the Press industry revolution who raised the need, awareness and to give what the press very truly deserved, “the freedom of the press”, he was none other than Raja Ram Mohan Roy.
Soon enough there was established the first truly owned Indian newspaper by Gangadhar Bhattacharya which was also called as the Bengal Gazette. Rapid developments across languages soon evolved in the form of print press in Hindi, Marathi, Urdu, Gujrati, Tamil, Malayalam, Assamese, Punjabi in the later part of 1850’s. As another decade moved in with the war of independence breaking in, the press became more prominent, more popular and a much needed power tool for information and education for people in general.
When we look into the advantages behind a newspaper and such other print media, even if there is low subscription or reach in terms of actual sale of the IP of newspapers, magazine, newsletters etc. the readership finally goes high. Especially in a country like India where there is still a huge number of people who are not literate, the news spreads in the form of sharing information from person to person. So the power of PRESS is a revolution on it’s own.
Over decades as the most famous and influential newspapers such as Bande Mataram, Kesari, Maratha, Free Press Journal, Madras Standard, Bombay Chronicle etc kept creating waves, so were prominent influencer’s like the great Mahatma Gandhi, Raja Ram Mohan Roy, Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Kasturi Ranga Iyengar etc associations with it.
The support for this medium of education and information became larger than life. Soon enough the influence to influence increased with technology contributing and forming a major role into the digital revolution of information sharing.
Today with millions of users across globally, India ranks high amongst users of internet and stands 2nd across Asia and with more adding up every day.
One of the most popular forms of using press or print information across India today is through blogs and micro blogs. No wonder we find more and more newspapers and magazines going ‘online’ and being a part of the larger revolution of the ‘spot content generation & sharing era’.
Today press has taken a larger role of not only entertaining and educating but also of rapidly evolving with the passage of time. We will soon be seeing a lot more of micro blogging platforms and blogs presenting the power of Press to us.
So till then, press this, share and keep evolving & learning!

Things to know about this new Media, before you plan and calculate your social media quotient for your social media marketing campaign?
Social Media:What You need to know?
Social Media Marketing is connecting with the consumer at every level possible through online channels across multiple platforms. The idea is to use the power of this tool to capture “More than just Metrics” and to Humanize Your Brand. Every aspect of Social Media Marketing is clearly measurable and can be customized to suit organizational goals and requirements. It gives us the power of customer insights coupled with latest in technology and media tools for in-depth analysis and market research.
What you need to know about social media quotient and social media marketing before you implement it for your brand, product or services?
Firstly you need to ask whether this medium is for your Brand and if yes, how much of demographics and market penetration it can help you achieve.
Then, you need to focus on the following:
- How important is it for my brand? - Measuring the ROI for Brand metrics
- Who am I planning to target? – Is there a science behind social media marketing?
- Who is targeting me already? – As in, do I only need to join in the conversation.
- My current Social Media Quotient
- Is there a value addition to my CRM and my other brand evangelist’s
- My planned social media quotient on a time-line
- If I need to focus on my goals, what are my priorities and how are they ranked?

Measuring Brand
Next, what you need to verify are:
- The organization or agency to whom I am planning to handover my brand conversations:
- How savvy are they really and are they practicing what they preach for their own brand?
- Are they present on multiple channels like on a Social Media Facebook page, Social Media Facebook Product Group, Social Media Twitter conversation prism, Social Media blogging service, social bookmarking tools like reditt, etc. and if yes, what is their level of conversation and quality of interaction. Ask them to present their own brief statistics in front of you for the above.
- What are the statistical tools they are using? You don’t need to know what they track as every SMM campaign is customized to suit your requirements and goals, but you need to know the power of the tool they have invested in.

Your Social Media Agency
Once you have an idea for the above, plan to connect at a higher level with your agency:
Join in their conversations across their Blog, Micro-blog, Social networking site, Forum, etc.
Ask them to give you a step by step process on “How to plan, design, implement, monitor and improvise” on the social media campaigns?
What is the core as for integrating the current creatives, PR, traditional methods used already, IP’s of the organization with the new media campaigns?
What channels, medium and process will suit your style the best?

Online marketing analysis
There is so much more conversation happening, if you would like to join in, tweet with us @techdivine or join our TD Studios Facebook group social media marketing services here & share your views with us at: socialmedia@techdivine.com
