Favourite Ads

Dear friends,

This blog post is long overdue from my end. Finally after a quality survey in the last 2 weeks, I am writing this post on ADVERTISING as requested by many of our readers from India.

Its been just over 7 years and across 18 Brands that I have divided my time between both the worlds of advertising and marketing. But luckily the new age techniques got added and with that I always realized that in today’s scenario, what is needed is a combination of a real time connect with the audience.  Only then will we  be able to touch base at varied levels with the today’s consumer. There is a long journey ahead and as I finally pooled in the survey results yesterday conducted with scores of members of TECHDIVINE Creative Services, the results were simply splendid.

A brief Introduction of this post:

Advertising, what it meant before: ‘A form of communication with an intention to persuade the viewer to buy or consume a particular brand or product’

Today: Advertising is “Information with quality entertainment to build a strong appeal and generate immediate response”

There are too many types of advertising methods & techniques that have been developed over centuries.

Right from the time when kings and queens ruled, walls and rocks were inscribed, painted propagating the merits of the rulers.  Soon, people themselves started delivering messages and advertising the rulers by saying out aloud the success of the rulers to its masses.  Then came the time when boards and people holding boards with messages were popular.

But the whole scenario changed with the introduction of print media entering the scene. Soon there were printed advertisements and flyer’s all around.

Advertising was evolving quickly. Radio, broadcast, Product advertising using guerrilla advertising techniques, infomercials, online advertising, mobile advertising, social media marketing and so on.

The highest recorded spot individual advertising spent was in the year 2009 wherein during the super bowl football game, an average single 30 second TV ad during the event cost around $ 3 million. Whoa!

What has changed the scenario so much?

As we looked into many different aspects of it, lot of our members gave their views of their favourite ads seen in the last 1 year  (India).

The message was clear. The viewer today needs more than just flashy content.

The audience today needs:

  • A clear message
  • Brand appeal touching base with the product characteristic
  • Strong relevance and message to product association
  • Strong concept
  • Easy Brand recall
  • A possible legendary icon if it could create  that the viewers can relate to
  • Lots of quality entertainment

Few of the favourite ads (All medium – Print / Video / Online….) as chosen by our members & our views on the same too:

Closeup Revolving door:

Our Views: Superb ad. Nice blend of the right tone and style of message across. Fresh and it works!

Airtel Ad:SRK

Our Views: Superb Ad. They could not have chosen a better man to endorse the same. SRK, the King himself connecting with a humble message “Akele hum kuch bhi nahi…”

Incredible India:

Our Views: Probably the best from the lot. Personally, our First Favourite. All stars!

Vodafone Zozoo ad: International Roaming:

Our Views: ICONIC. Superb ad(s). All the ads are simple, humorous & have a clear Message. The character is LEGENDARY! Connects with audience of all ages.

Center Shock ad:

Our Views: Good Ad. Appeals to the product’s target audience.

“Old Ad”: But still listed as favourite: Fevicol:

Our Views: Superb Ad. Personally, our second favourite.

Cadbury Dairy Milk Silk:

Our Views: Superb Ad. Clear, precise and connects. As most of the Cadbury ads.

Bajaj Pulsar Ad:

Our Views: Good Ad. Flashy but a little overdone.I guess they are right, definitely a  male!

Tata Docomo: Ganesha

Our Views: Superb Ad

DLF IPL 2010:

Our Views: Superb Ad. Jut as the brand, a powerful appeal and an amazing visual connect. Just like the game, larger than life.

Coca Cola Ad1:The Library

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rKV0kR6Ih0s

Our Views: Superb Ad. Visually and in terms of the message. A perfect combination of Brand and appeal.

Coca Cola Ad2:

Our Views: Good Ad. Nice connect.

Max NewYork: Cricket

Our Views: Good ad.

Pepsi:

Our Views: Ok Ad. Ranbir at his best so far. But the appeal could have been a much hard hitting message than what is. The connect somewhat seems to be missing here for a beverage drink especially for the ‘YOUNGISTAN’.

Union Bank of India promoted the running of joint bank accounts with a print advertising campaign featuring one of India’s most well known couple: Mohandas Karamchand (Mahatma) Gandhi and Kasturba Gandhi on India’s 100 Rupee note: M K Gandhi Ad campaign

UBI: M K Gandhi Ad: Joint Account

Our Views: Superb Ad.

Aseema Childrens Trust:

Aseema Ad

Our Views: Superb Ad. Powerful and gets the message across clearly.

That wraps it up for this post……….

Do give me your views and comments on the same.

Would love to hear from you.

Ananth V

Welcome to the 82nd Annual Academy Awards. The night we all have been waiting for.

The red carpet began like always with all its glory and glamour.

As the celebrities drove in, the background simmered with the glitz with scores of fans screaming out their names, the red carpet flew into the majestic cinematic magical wonder that it is.

The stage was set as Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin introduced the lighter moments and yes, the nominees too. Most of their introduction was revolving around the ravishingly gorgeous Meryl Streep, who was attending her 16th Oscar nomination.

Then began the magic of the amazing golden statuette, the night of the 82nd Oscar.

Penelope cruz looking stunning as usual, gave the Oscar for the best actor in a supporting roleWon by Christoph Waltz (Inglorious Basterds) – This is his first nomination and Oscar. Wow! Congratulations.

Pete D won the Oscar for UP (Animated Feature) who quoted, “I never thought, my high school flip book story will lead me here…..” Well, it did. It must have been an amazing flip book because it was a wonderful animated feature.

The Oscar for the best Musical score was won for Crazy Heart.

The night had just begun.

Tina fey and Robert Downey Jr. gave the Oscar for best Original screenplay. The nominations were simply splendid and the winner was Mark Boal for Hurt locker.

John Hughes was honored for his contributions over so many decades and the legacy that he had left behind.

Best animated short was won by Nicolas Schmerkin for Logorama. You should really watch this movie. It’s simply brilliant.

Music by Prudence won for Best Documentary short by Roger Ross Williams.

The New Tenants won by Joachim and Tivi for Best Documentary.

Ben Stiller made a superb entry in the form of Avatar character and gave the Oscar for what else, for best make up. The winner was none other than the galactic wonder, the ‘Star Trek’ – Barney, Mindy and Joel took the Oscar.

Best adapted screenplay was won for Precious by Geoffrey who gave an emotionally charged acceptance speech just like the marvelously heavy hitting brilliant movie.

Queen Latifah introduced the Governors awards for 2010.

And, yes, then came the man himself, Robin Williams, who presented the award for best actress in a supporting role. The Oscar went for the brilliant performance by Mo’nique in Precious. You have got to see the movie! It’s precious. No pun intended.

The Oscar for best Art direction was won by Avatar, no guesses here (The team – Rick, Robert and Kim)

The Oscar for best costume design went to, The Young Victoria, costume by Sandy Powell who won her 3rd Academy award.

Best sound editing was won by Paul Ottosson for The Hurt Locker.

Best Sound mixing went yet again to Paul Ottosson and Ray Beckett for the Hurt Locker.

Outstanding achievement in Cinematography went to Mauro for ‘The Avatar’.

The Oscar for the best visual effects went to none other than Avatar. There was no doubt here. (The Team – Joe, Stephen, Richard and Andrew)

The Cove by Louie won the best documentary.

Best film editing went to, yet again The Hurt Locker won by Bob and Chris.

The Best Actor Male went to the legendary Jeff Bridges for Crazy Heart and the best Actor female, went to gorgeous Sandra Bullock for The Blind Side.

The surprise of the red carpet’s evening was when both the Best Picture and Best Director went to Kathryn Bigelow for Hurt Locker.

Do feel free to share your comments here with us.

Chao!

3 Idiots: Movie Review

3 IDIOTS – *ing Aamir Khan, Madhavan, Sharman Joshi & Kareena Kapoor

***Give Me Some Sunshine, Give Me Some Rain, Give Me Another Chance, I Wanna Grow Up Once Again***

and so the story unfolds………………

Written by:

Credits:

Writing credits
Chetan Bhagat -  book “Five Point Someone” (After reading the book and watching the movie, its probably just about 10% that’s been taken from the book)
Rajkumar Hirani     –    story

I watched 3 IDIOTS at PVR Cinemas thereby making my long & lovely Christmas holiday have a wonderful end. How? Well, I watched it with my friends, my high school friends.

My verdict – Ensure that you have a ‘dhekko’ of this movie. It is absolutely worth the moolah. This movie is definitely one of the finest produced this year.

The concept of the movie takes off from where Aamir left off in Dil Chahta hai. It is the story of three guys (3 Idiots) who meet at an engineering college, become room mates and then become the best of friends. One of their less illustrious friends Chatur Ramalingam reminded me of a friend in school days. So did few others too.

This very feature of the movie wherein the audience can relate to the characters and the situations is what works in making this movie the hit of the year.

The Characters & Plot:

Aamir Khan, if he can make it to the Education industry, he can well transform the entire education delivery system in the country by the intelligent ideas portrayed in Taare Zameen Par & 3 Idiots system of teaching and learning. Nevertheless, the beauty is, we will only get to watch these beautiful teaching techniques only in a movie, as our Indian education system will never change.

Boman Irani has given a great performance as usual again proving to one and all that he cannot become an effective Principal/Headmaster – All his students tend to get the better of him in his movies. First Main Hoon Na then Munnabhai MBBS & now 3 Idiots. He has again done it with ease.

Madhavan and Sharman have under acted and done it amazingly well. Their characters are definitely not the main catch of the script but the end scenes and performances given by both of them, takes the story and those characters to a totally new level.

The story begins with two friends Farhan (Madhavan) and Raju (Sharman) trying to hunt down their old friend Rancho (Aamir) 10 years after they completed their engineering. This journey leads them through many a twist in the midst of which we are given a detailed account of their years at the engineering college. They manage to even gate crash Kareena’s (Aamir’s love interest) marriage in their search.

I would like to divulge the details rather the entire movie but do not want to spoil the fun for those who are yet to see it.

So Watch it and come back impressed by Aamir’s performance coupled with Sharman & Madhavan playing the perfect foil.

My advice: DO NOT miss the first 10 minutes of the movie.

Movie Rating:4/5

To bolo: All isz Wellll……………………….

Regards
