Google Android: We saw the globe going gaga over the rich sweet OS treats offered by Google Android in terms of Éclair, Froyo, Gingerbread and so on. Google Android with its open source and scores of free apps, made its presence felt more with the launch of Gingerbread and that was coupled with Samsung’s ample choice of smartphones and tablets powered with Android OS. It has over 85% of its users now upgraded with Android 2.1 and 3.1 OS.

Facebook: The ‘F’ word. Facebook still remains as the top social networking site with over 700 Million users and sure enough, we are looking ahead at an early Billion user milestone mark this 2012.

Twitter: This site which was started merely as a social bookmarking tool or site, now is looking to be a threat to the mighty facebook too. Twitter crossed the milestone of users now sending over 200 Million Tweets per day and with the amazing platform now reaching to over 100 Million active users, the little bird was simply trending across the globe.  With its all new Activity stream, available across more countries and in many more languages, addition of TweetDeck, integration of tools for Sharing photos, videos and more content from popular streams across, Twitter will be the site to watch out for brands and users across the globe.

Foursquare: Foursquare set a record of Billion Check-ins in 2011.  That, further boosted with its user base now growing over 10 million people,  this location – based check-in site made it clear to the world ‘when it comes to geo target or location based application, foursquare rules the lot. Google Plus: The much awaited Google Plus was launched with more anticipation than probably any other news with a frenzy of users paying scores of dollars for getting an “Invite” into Google Plus. Though the initial rush has eventually seemed to settle down with many users opting to stay a little bit longer with facebook than jump on to the G+ wagon, this power site of Google will surely add up some amazing surprises for brands, marketers and users across in 2012. LinkedIn: In early quarter of 2011 LinkedIn crossed the 100 Million members mark and its looking better than ever. With its IPO soaring  and creating the most amazing financial buzz around,  it is a site to look out for. With its newer features of Live news, popular stories and more, professionals across the globe want to be a part of this amazing network. Lot is riding on it this year and if the past experience is anything to go by, 2012 will be a year of positive updates and surprises for LinkedIn users across the globe.

WordPress: WordPress crossed the 50 Million mark in 2011 and this popular Blogging platform now empowers over 70 Million sites (70,112,513 WordPress sites across the Globe.) With its ease of use and flexibility for users to add their own codes, app integrations and widgets, we wont be surprised to see it cross the 100 Million mark this 2012. With more and more bloggers and readers around the world, WordPress seems to be an obvious and unanimous choice.

Instagram: With over 150 Million photos, this site seems to be raging with creative and rich content in terms of “captured moments’ which are shared by users every second. Its easy to use, very  fast and empowers users to express themselves amazingly. This app would be a game changer in terms of rich media content sharing especially for pictures and we would not be surprised to see picture editing and effects features integrated more with the instagram apps in 2012.

YouTube: This video stream site turned Five in 2011 and with that it achieved a remarkable milestone of over 3 billion videos viewed a day.

The journey from social media to assured sales is the one every brand would love to make.  As it not only ensures good business, but also helps brands to establish themselves as “Consumers Choice”.

Of the many aspects that are part of an online marketing campaign, there are few which are the core points that brands need to keep in mind while planning a social media marketing campaign:

Understand the consumer first -  Do your homework, research, analysis and understand the complete demographic and online social behavior of the consumers on:

  • “How do they react” to specific tone of messages, words, phrases etc online.
  • Each consumer (Industry centric) reacts differently online and offline.
  • The idea is to have a very thin line between the two worlds and give the end users a real-time experience with rich content, feel in terms of demos, apps, videos, immediate feedback and responses too.
  • In simple terms, it should result into value for connecting with your brand and a wonderful experience at the end for the users.

The consumer of today is well informed and it is to be used as an advantage by brands as their target market today interacts and engages themselves more than ever before.

So the first idea is to understand and connect with the consumer within and then with the end users.

  • Don’t sell, but relate to their needs, buying patterns, customize and give them value for being a part of this online social engagement.
  • Remember, every user online who speaks about you or “Likes or Mentions” you across social networking platforms, is your very own brand ambassador.
  • Recognize them and reward them accordingly.Make room for immediate gratification.
  • Look at what brands like Starbucks or Mountain Dew does. They take customers feedback and create products relevant to their needs.

Now comes the part of understanding what they need and the aspect of really making it happen based on organizational support and dealing with roadblocks that are inevitable (Organizational roadblocks – Rigid Policy, guidelines, in-house team support etc). Every effort towards customization for consumer, especially on an online platform, assures the Brands tremendous recognition and feedback via brand promotion and mentions by their consumers and the best part is that, its measurable.

Offer them custom designed services and products. Its wonderful when brands ask customers to design their very own “Combo products / services” It not only keeps them engaged with the brand, but also tells them that you value their opinions and doing your best to deliver.

Today e-commerce companies like Flipkart are doing really well because of many reasons, but few of those mainly owing to the fact that they have a “no-hassle return policy coupled with Cash on delivery” option which gives tremendous trust to consumers buying online today. With that, they also offer daily special offers, deals, low-price and that with great service is bound to make them popular. It shows that they have listened.

Another important aspect is, to not be on, each and every available online platform.

This is a mistake which many brands today make. Being or trying to be everywhere. Be at relevant online platforms. Understand whether your end users use blogs, forms, social networking sites, google searches, web banner ads, emailers, smartphone apps etc and establish your presence across those profiles only. Being across 4-6 such platforms to begin with is more than enough during a period of a six month to one year campaign wherein, you get a better understanding of their comfort levels with engaging online and you can then focus on may be just those 2-3 platforms, where their presence is more and for a longer duration.

Search engine optimization also is an important part of digital marketing today with feeds and comments appearing on searches. But with the pace with which social media monitoring and marketing seem to be growing, its become compulsory to integrate social media campaigns with seo. But make sure, you concentrate on on-page optimization as strong as off-age optimization too.

Empowering BRAND YOU on Your turf, there’s nothing like it.

There is nothing more powerful than having control over your Brand especially when it comes to consumer engagement and interactions.

Now, how does that happen?

Consumers today, have empowered words like ‘LIKE’, ‘SHARE’, ‘Re-Tweet’ beyond imagination.

But this special blog post comes for a very specific reason.

Recently Cadbury & few other Brands got a clear message from social media powerhouse Facebook, that their brands were hosted on nothing more than a rented domain when the social giant took their pages off the site for certain page violations.

Now the power, reach and impact of this social networking site is well known across countries, age groups and Industries. How do we deal with the ‘fan-frenzy’ desires of  brands?

Similarly, majority of the Corporate Moghuls and their Board too these days end up asking one standard question off-late which is, “How do I get more fans?”

I have always shared a core note with them on this, which I thought is due to be shared on a global platform via our Corporate Social Media Marketing Blog from Techdivine Creative Services where we have successfully launched Brand promotions, PR Campaigns, Corporate Branding etc

This is what I have shared with them each time someone says, “I need more fans or followers”:

  • How much useful is a teenager to an Industrial Organization?
  • How much will “Random Fans & Followers” across sites like Twitter, Facebook etc matter when it comes to measuring your ROI on your campaigns or your Brand value?
  • Does having a million fans or thousands of twitter followers cater to your business goals and brand needs?
  • How much are you willing to alter your Brands language, style and tone to suit few fans or followers and are you ready for the long term repercussions?

The answer, each time was a simple No, from each experienced corporate professional.

It has to be a NO. Why?

Customer engagement and brand connect has to be happen with proper planning and using appropriate marketing strategies and tools. Its not about having a page on a social site or a twitter account.

Let us take this for example, each time a telecom, credit card or ISP providers call us on our phone we get annoyed and add them to the spam or block lists. Why? because they are entering on our turf during our time schedule.

How is this related to having random fans and followers?

Now every time a user follows “BRAND YOU” just because you followed them or every time a fan joins you because you asked them to through ‘friend suggests’, it’s the same thing all over. Only this time, it would be “Brand You” sharing so called interesting posts, tweets to people who are least interested or not even remotely associated with the message, product or service.

When we say customers engage in brand conversations, the conversations do not necessarily need to be about Your Brand or Product or service, but they need to be of value, quality and depict BRAND YOU at all times.

4 Rules, never to forget:

  1. Brand is only as good as the consumer it reaches.
  2. If traditional media were to be avoided for new age media sites, then one has less than 50% of market reach possible especially in a country like India. Integrate and collaborate between online and offline media, always, with the right set of words.
  3. It doesn’t matter where the consumers are located. The only thing we need to always keep in mind is, speak our BRANDS language and let them connect with us. Never use a Corporate language or a slang style just because you want that consumer to connect. Brands always need to stay focused on what you desire and aspire from your brand to achieve. Clear Goals.
  4. Never leave all your eggs in one basket. Core being, never depend on a single platform for reaching out across to your consumers.

Thus multiple platforms, at least one for each medium is a must.

For eg.

  • You can have one site that touches base with Bloggers (there are million bloggers and readers today who are looking for information, reviews, news and offers across Blog searches)
  • Social Check-ins for users who are on the go (A must today for those in service industry especially Retail, Hospitality etc)
  • A single platform for showcasing your creative skills or videos of your Brand messages
  • A social book-marking platform wherein your followers consume the resources that you share with them using Url redirects, useful posts, creatives etc.

Your content is the key here. That’s your Corporate IPR ,your very own Intellectual property. Why restrict it to only a third party site? Use it wisely across platforms that are completely under your control, like self-hosted domains for website, Blog, Forum etc

With the power of social connect today, make sure your website has enough new age media tools like FBML, Facebook, Twitter, Blog feeds integration etc to pull the social conversations from your various online platforms to your website pages. Integrate your Facebook, Twitter and Blog conversations on your websites without fail.

Three key advantages:

  • One, it becomes a powerful Search engine optimization (SEO) tool
  • Two, your content is re-used and has a larger reach.
  • And three, in case your social site goes off or the domain has a server crash, there is at least one platform alive and going strong for you keeping the conversations alive.

Always note, the idea is to convey the “BRAND You” message and not alter it by using the users language. Why?

The day a follower or a fan or the social site decides to go offline or communicates on a third party site with his or her own version of constructive random musings of criticism, is the day your fan numbers would too drop at an accelerating pace.

Moreover, having the right fans and followers matters rather than having a million who end up sharing competitors contents in between your comments and pages which might get lost in the social clutter and noise across your third party pages and sites. Brand monitoring here is an equally important function.

Bottom-line:

  • The power to make that global “Brand You” conversation a reality is by sharing relevant content, on-time across multiple sites of which you need at least two to three sites completely under your control all the time.
  • Having a self-hosted Blog or your own web domain that pulls in feeds and interactions about your brand from across multiple sites not only gives you a larger reach but also control over the message.
  • Consumer insights are the most important aspect of any Brand conversation. They not only tell you what they are saying but also where and when. Make sure you make good use of it.

The 2nd TechBrandsMeetUP Event was held on June 12, 2011 in Mumbai at Techdivine Creative Services.

Participants from across 10 Industries (Banking, HR, IT, Telecom, Infrastructure, Media, IPR, Finance, Advertising, Industrial) shared wonderful insights into the current updates from their industry, use of Technology integrated social tools from their organizations, their expectations, concerns, cross sharing of ideas and more.

The event kicked off with our Founder & CEO Mr.Ananth, addressing the professionals with a brief “About us – Techdivine Creative Services” & Highlights of the first TechBrandsMeetUP event.

Each participant was introduced with the Industry they belonged to and the discussions followed.

Each Industry’s customer was present during the event, the reason being, each one of us makes use of one or the other products from across Industries on a day to day basis, whether on a B2B platform or a B2C medium. So as soon as Industry professionals shared their insights and concerns, we took an immediate customer view on the same and got their feedback and responses. Then we shared with the concerned participant the probable solutions that the new age media tools could provide based on our earlier marketing, social media & viral campaigns across Industries and countries.

Within the first hour of the event, the whole place was abuzz with ideas and suggestions from end users of Industries and with feedback that added value to the participants.

Few key highlights from the event as follows:

-          Banking: Of the various updates and news shared, One of the prime concerns expressed was shams happening online due to intentional misrepresentation by fraudsters to lure innocent prospects into their fraudulent activities.  Not only did every other participant express their valuable thoughts on it, but there were some innovative techniques and process which we too shared from our end to have control over the same using technology integrated Social tools to Monitor Brands and activities online. One of the key examples shared from our end, was protecting both, the consumers & brands by using strategic, organized & controlled approach similar to our ROADMAP strategy and the Social Media Influence (SMI) tool integrated with Blogs and Social Bookmarking to have a much stronger control over the same. The idea of monitoring with strong analytics and at the same time using social networking power to keep people informed was very well accepted by the participants.

-          Media: With Blockbuster movies like Pirates, Batman, Avatar making royal splash across online sites, very less needed to be shared on the power of digital marketing tools for TV shows, media channels and Movies. What were discussed was some innovative tools that each participant had experienced online for different movies on sites like YouTube, Twitter, Facebook etc. Obviously the prime concern or pain area discussed was piracy of movies and music online. To which a major vote unanimously screamed to the ideas used by many producers today to simultaneously launch their movies online too on sites like Youtube etc at an extremely marginal cost. This eventually will not only lead to a major drop in piracy online, but also give users to discuss, share and comment on the movies real-time. We also shared some powerful insights into using the social media digital tools to empower audiences with latest happenings across the world in just a matter of seconds and bringing help and hope together to those who need it at great pace to further empower media.

-          Telecom: Telecom seems to be slowly getting into the digital media space. What was observed was, even though many sites and brands seem to have already adopted powerhouse tools like Facebook, Twitter etc optimally to showcase their engaging tools, interesting offers, surprise contests etc for users, most of these brands do not have a strong back-up team to live upto their promises online especially for after sales services, customer grievances etc. Some of the brands that were mentioned during this discussion were Dell, Vodafone, Tata, Airtel wherein corporate professionals expressed their views on the number of times they have opted for a switch of brands because the Brands did not resolve their grievances on time. What was also observed as a cause for switching loyalty other than having a poor back-up team was that, in certain cases, the Brands were not able to tap the user grievances due to a poor planning of tracking brand mentions or failing to revert back on time. The very important point to note here was, majority of the irate users who switched Brands due to major grievances were those who had been loyal to those specific brands the longest. What we suggested here again was empowering the Brands or Companies with a stronger Brand monitoring tool but with lesser advertising assurances and more on time delivery of services to reaffirm their lost faith across customers. Core being, resolving an Irate customers issues not only assures the brand of a happy customer but a powerful and loyal brand ambassador for life.

-          Infrastructure & Industrial: In both the cases the participants from respective industries expressed what was currently being used by the Companies to connect with internal employees and prospects / customers, wherein the most popular tool seemed to be Blogs. Reason that seemed to echo across was that more than having an option to reach out to the company CEO or Business head as shared by the HR teams of their respective organizations by using direct internal mail service, the idea of having a Blog wherein the Top Exes of the company shared “whats happening now” in terms of company achievements, new additions, changes if any, events etc using blogs was a much better and interactive option for the employees to stay connected. Why? As it was easier to reply back, comment, suggest on corporate blogs than to write a direct email to the seniors in the organization. Here what was found to at times pull down the participation in companies by employees, was lacking interest due to not fully understanding the use of blogging or how to blog etc. So we shared some insights on the power of Blogs and what we could achieve for few of our clients in terms of internal and external reach with a power packed SEO and a strong sense of interactivity using new age widgets and tools with the blog.

-          IT: Forums seemed to be extremely popular for IT pros to post queries and to get quick responses from users online. The only problem noted was it had limited know-how for professionals from other fields and thus poses a limitation to be popular across. The high side was the power of forums echoed with timely and at times even spontaneous solutions to problems irrespective of the company they belonged to and the place they worked from. Also, due to many IT pros already familiar with the benefits, this seemed to be a major need across IT industries who have not already implemented it in their organization. Some key points shared by the professionals were also that, unless made mandatory for their future career growth, very small percentage seemed to be making actual use of the in-house Knowledge resources (KR) available. Examples and key points in terms of disadvantages of not having a Trademark or a Patent or Copyrights for your original works was put forth and the need for a ™ © ® etc was felt to only get more intense with so much of content being shared for free online. The core concern would be eventually to have protection for all your content and safeguard your intellectual properties. What was asked to the crowd was, what they wanted to know more to which they responded, that ‘they wanted to know what they could afford not to know about IPR’ for their brand, ideas or designs. Eventually, every professional from each Industry shared their ideas to make IPR branding itself a popular search online and promoting it to not only create awareness but encouraging users to have their brands and concepts protected. The bottom-line being, “whats Yours needs to be Yours.” We shared some key ideas of integrating Social Media Marketing platforms and mobile apps to create larger reach and awareness across corporate by using platforms like Linkedin, the power of SEO through social bookmarking and blogs etc for creating awareness for this Industry.

-          HR: Those in Human Resources (HR) have always been pro-people for obvious reasons. It was clear by the ideas and experiences shared by the concerned participant from HR industry that Online is not only a powerful medium but something that everyone willingly wants to be part of, especially on sites like Facebook and Twitter. The key idea is to find a controlled process to bring people together to share their concerns, growth strategies with their peers, superiors etc so as to be able to put a tab on the oldest concern of organizations which is employee attrition. Here we came up with some key solutions that would not only reduce attritions but also encourage employees referrals for job openings in the company using the digital media tools regularly, optimally and appropriately.


We then shared some interesting concepts, tools, productivity apps and showcased the following:

It could help companies win  corporate battles online, reach messages across nations in a controlled and spam-free fashion, help companies generate actual leads used with the right mix of tools online.

-       QR code was discussed and with the increase in use of smart-phones globally, the participants had a fun time scanning a sample QR code generated from our end. Once they got a rush out of it, they shared some innovative ideas of how it could help keep customers engaged for Industries like Retail, Fashion, Restaurants, Education while adding lots of fun and value add for the Brands too.

-    Foursquare & its uses as an end user, for travelers, for those visiting new cities, country for the first time, for Marketing professionals, for Brands etc and we had few participants who checked in at out Office location to try out the apps too. It was fun, interactive and at the same time, everyone was eager to now check-in at foursquare special locations and try out the new app.

-       Using Gmail and its new features like labels, account filters etc and syncing it with your mobile phones for quicker response time with better time management.
