Punter and Schumacher bid goodbye, Flintoff starts afresh<\/strong><\/p>\n

The world of sports is going through some changes with two legends bidding adieu to their respective fields and another getting ready to start anew in one.<\/p>\n

Ricky Ponting announced that he would draw the curtains on his 17 year career at the end of the\u00a0third Test match against South Africa, which begins on Friday.\u00a0\u201cIt\u2019s a decision I thought long and hard about. At the end of the day, it was about my results and my output in this series so far,\u201d said the Launceston-born batsman. \u201cIf you look back over the last 12 or 18 months, I haven\u2019t been able to perform consistently.\u201d said Ponting also fondly known as “Punter” analysing his recent performance on the field.<\/p>\n

Ponting has been part of 108 test victoreis, the only cricketer to do so and has also led Australia to World Cup victories twice in 2003 and 2007.\u00a0He is also the second highest scorer, after Sachin Tendulkar in Tests and One-Day Internationals.<\/p>\n

Another legend announced his retirement as well, albeit in the world of Formula One Racing. Michael Schumacher who had come out of retirement once in 2010 is ready to bid a final goodbye to the sport again at the Brazilian GP.\u00a0\u201cI will take the best out of it and enjoy it as much as I can,\u201d he said of his final race.\u00a0\u00a0Schumacher has a stellar career stats with most wins (91), pole positions (68), fastest laps (77) and most podium finishes (155). He is second in the numbers of races entered (307) behind former Ferrari teammate Rubens Barrichello.<\/p>\n

While these two legends might have created a hollow space in their respective fields which might be hard to fill, Andrew Flintoff is getting ready to step into the ring for another round.<\/p>\n

The former England cricketer\u00a0was forced to retire at the age of 31 because of injuries, admitting that his body had beaten him. He turned quite a few heads earlier this year, when he announced that he would be pulling on boxing gloves to make a foray into the world of boxing.\u00a0“I wanted to get back into professional sport at a time when I needed something. I was drifting,” Flintoff was quoted as saying by BBC. Flintoff will make his\u00a0professional debut facing off against Richard Dawson of the United States.<\/p>\n
