It will go by the name of Ubuntu Kylin and will be released by April.<\/p>\n<p>It will be released first for <a title=\"The best linux apps to help you achieve more on your desktop or laptop\" href=\"http:\/\/www.techdivine.com\/tdblog\/2012\/07\/the-best-linux-apps-to-help-you-achieve-more-on-your-desktop-or-laptop\/\" target=\"_blank\">desktop and laptop<\/a> computers, other devices like <a title=\"Top 5 apps for your Android or iPhone\" href=\"http:\/\/www.techdivine.com\/tdblog\/2013\/03\/top-5-apps-for-your-android-or-iphone\/\" target=\"_blank\">smartphones and tablets<\/a> and cloud computing will also be supported over time. The current edition of Ubuntu Kylin with version number 13.04 already supports customized input methods for Chinese characters, has Chinese calendars and a new weather indicator,and also the ability to search across popular music services from the dash. Apart from these newer releases will include integration with Baidu <a title=\"Scale the Seven Summits with Google Maps\" href=\"http:\/\/www.techdivine.com\/tdblog\/2013\/03\/scale-the-seven-summits-with-google-maps\/\" target=\"_blank\">maps<\/a>,\u00a0leading shopping service Taobao, payment processing for Chinese banks, and real-time train and flight information.<\/p>\n<p>The development for Ubuntu Kylin will continue as a separate version of Ubuntu tailored specifically for the Chinese market. The most popular office suite in china, WPS is also contributing to the project by creating <a title=\"Now browse Instagram feed on the web\" href=\"http:\/\/www.techdivine.com\/tdblog\/2013\/02\/now-browse-instagram-feed-on-the-web\/\" target=\"_blank\">photo editing<\/a> and system management tools which could be incorporated in other Ubuntu distros as well.<\/p>\n<p>The move to embrace <a title=\"8 Freewares to increase your productivity\" href=\"http:\/\/www.techdivine.com\/tdblog\/2012\/02\/8-freewares-to-increase-your-productivity\/\" target=\"_blank\">open source software<\/a> is part of a five year initiative by the Chinese government. China has the highest population in the world and an initiative like this will be a much needed shot in the arm for the open source movement.
