Gmail introduces pop out compose window

Gmail is rolling out a new feature which enables faster and speedier composing of mails while allowing you to refer to old mails as well. While Gmail has gotten many visual changes in the past, the core email composing functions have remained unchanged so far.

Gmail update with new compose window

With the new update, clicking on compose will now open a small overlay window or a pop up like the chat window in the lower right hand corner of your browser. This will mean that your inbox will still be visible in the background and you can easily open older mails in case you need to check on facts or quotes. This window can also be minimised akin to your chat windows. This reduces the effort that you had to go through earlier, like saving a draft, opening the old mail, then again going to drafts and opening the current mail that you were editing. You can also draft multiple mails in multiple pop ups enabling you to multi task as well.

When entering the names of recipients, autocomplete will also show a small image of your contacts, making it easier to identify the person quickly. You can even drag and drop the recipients among the cc and bcc fields. A few other changes are in store as well. These features are being rolled out slowly for everyone, so you may not see it yet but they will be eventually be enabled for everyone once the Gmail team has put their finishing touches on it.
