Posterous to shut down on April 30

Blogging platform Posterous which was acquired by Twitter almost a year back, has announced in a blog post that they will be shutting down their services on April 30th. This move is to allow them to focus 100% on their efforts with Twitter.

This means after April 30th, users will no longer be able to access Posterous Spaces to view or edit their posts. Posterous has advised users to take a backup of their blogs by going to http://posterous.com/#backup. Here, users can request a backup of their Spaces by clicking on “Request Backup” next to their name. Users will be notified whenever their backup is ready, they can then proceed to download the zip file from the same link.  WordPress and Squarespace users can avail of the importers to move all content from Posterous to the respective sites. Users will no longer be able to backup via any of the above methods after April 30th.

Posterous initally launched in May 2008 as a blogging platform and quickly became popular due to its ability to auto post to various other social platforms and the ability to post to your blog via e-mail.
