After mapping the depths of the ocean, Google Maps has set its sights on the horizon and the towering peaks of some of the highest mountains in the world. Google Maps has added a few mountains to its huge Maps database, namely Aconcagua (South America), Kilimanjaro (Africa), Mount Elbrus (Europe) and Everest Base Camp (Asia). These are a few of the mountains which together make up the Seven Summits, i.e the highest mountains on each of the seven continents.

Above you can explore Tanzania’s Mount Kilimanjaro, which is also known as the Roof of Africa. This is the highest freestanding mountain in the world covered in snow just three degrees south of the equator. You can also hop to to the tallest mountain in Europe, Russia’s Mount Elbrus, and see huts constructed from Soviet-era fuel barrels which provide refuge to climbers when the weather turns foul. Argentina’s mighty Aconcagua, the highest peak in both the Western and Southern Hemispheres is also up for exploration. You can observe how a base camp is set up and how climbing expeditions prep for their arduous ascent.
